Shows:
Buenos Aires is a city which offers all kinds of shows
and cultural events, from rock band concerts to opera
premieres, tango shows, a varied theater billboard and
innumerable cinemas. Like most important cities, Buenos
Aires presents an intense nightlife, with countless
nightclubs, bars, casinos and other recreational places.
Without doubt, the most famous theater in Buenos Aires
is the Colón Opera House with room capacity for
over 2,000 spectators. It was inaugurated in 1908 with
Giusseppe Verdi’s masterpiece, Aida. The construction
of the site was designed by architects Tamborini, Dormal
and Meano. Its façade displays features, well-defined
by architect Meano as having: “Italian Renaissance
attributes alternated with the detail distribution and
strength of the German architecture and the grace, variety
and magnanimity of the French structural design”.
In the sixties, its central dome was painted by the
Argentine artist Raúl Soldi.
It is located on the block delimited by Libertad, Cerrito,
Tucumán and Toscanini Streets, between the Lavalle
Square and the 9 de Julio Avenue.
Corrientes Avenue is synonym of theatrical activity
and it is known as “the street that never sleeps”.
The most important theaters in this avenue are: Gral.
San Martín Theater (pertaining to the government
of the city of Buenos Aires), Premier Cinema Theater,
Picadilly Theater, Metropolitan Cinema Theater, Lorange
Cinema Theater, Lola Membrives Theater, Blanca Podestá
Theater, and located in Córdoba Avenue and Libertad,
the Cervantes National Theater.
