Patagonia
Patagonia
The Patagonia constitutes the
southern part of the American continent, with two clearly
defined regions: the Andean Patagonia or the Western
Lake District and, to the east, the Patagonic
Plateau or Sea Littoral.
The Patagonian Plateau or Sea Littoral: This
enormous littoral of approximately 1,700 miles has an
exceptional relief composed of steppe-like plains with
cliffs edging the sea, high plateaus, hills and valleys,
which allow us to watch the sea from the coast road
at a considerable height. This is a very rich region
as to sea fauna, where big colonies of sea lions and
elephant seals can be seen together with the local main
attraction: the southern right whale. One of the principal
tourist centers is Puerto Madryn, where whale-watching,
scuba diving and sport fishing can be practiced. Another
priceless feature of the region is its archeological
and paleontological heritage. In the city of Trelew,
the Museum Edigio Feruglio is devoted to the said Patagonian
patrimony. This entire region is a vast fossil deposit
which has provided science with unique specimens.
Outdoor
activities: Sport
fishing in general; fly fishing; small game and big
game hunting (in authorized game preserves); trekking,
horseback riding, mountain biking, scuba diving and
other water sports.
